North Bergen has the second most hills per square mile of any municipality in the United States, behind only San Francisco. That single fact explains most of what makes the township worth a day. Hills mean views, and this town has them from angles nobody outside Hudson County knows about.

1. What Are the Best Things to Do in North Bergen NJ?
Braddock Park, then the cliff walk, then Bergenline Avenue.
James J. Braddock North Hudson County Park is the anchor, and it is large enough to hold a full afternoon on its own. Boulevard East gives you the Manhattan skyline from the top of the Palisades. Bergenline Avenue carries the shopping and the food. New Jersey Beer Company adds a brewery a short walk from the light rail.
The township covers about 5.5 square miles and runs from the Hudson River waterfront up to a plateau on the cliffs. Where you are in North Bergen changes what you are looking at completely.
2. What Is There to Do at James J. Braddock Park?
More than most people realize. This is a 167-acre county park.
Braddock Park sits at 9003 Bergenline Avenue and holds the 16-acre Woodcliff Lake along with roughly forty-five athletic facilities. The count includes 21 tennis courts, three basketball courts, three bocce courts, handball courts, three football fields, six volleyball courts, a little league field, and a cross country and exercise course. There is also a dog run, an arboretum, picnic areas, and playground equipment.
The quieter side is better. The park has a natural wildlife sanctuary and a bird-viewing platform, and the trails run both along the lake and atop the cliffs. Benches near Woodcliff Lake face a fountain.

3. Who Was James Braddock and Why Is the Park Named for Him?
The World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, and he trained here.
Braddock was the fighter portrayed in the film Cinderella Man and a long-time Hudson County resident. The park, originally North Hudson Park, was renamed for him. A 10-foot bronze statue weighing 1,500 pounds stands at the park entrance, dedicated in September 2018 in recognition of his training legacy in the neighborhood.
That statue is the most photographed thing in the township and it takes about ninety seconds to visit. Worth the stop.
4. Where Do You Get the Best Manhattan Skyline Views in North Bergen?
Boulevard East, along the top of the Palisades.
Boulevard East runs 4.7 miles from Weehawken north through West New York and Guttenberg into North Bergen, sitting at the top of the cliffs the entire way. There is a pedestrian path with the skyline on one side and early twentieth-century architecture on the other. Many of those homes were originally built for the people who ran the factories at the base of the cliffs.
The northern end of the boulevard reaches the top of Braddock Park, so the two anchors connect on foot if you want to make a longer walk out of it.
5. What Is Bergenline Avenue Known For?
The commercial spine of North Hudson, and the food.
Bergenline Avenue runs 4.4 miles through Union City, West New York, Guttenberg, and North Bergen, making it one of the longest continuous commercial corridors in the region. The North Bergen stretch carries a dense mix of international cuisine, groceries, bakeries, and everyday retail.
Named rooms on the corridor include La Sorrentina, a family-owned Italian restaurant open since 2003 known for brick oven pizza and house-made pasta, and an artisan gelateria run by the same family making small-batch gelato with imported ingredients. Cuban, Peruvian, and Italian options run along the same stretch.
6. Is There a Brewery in North Bergen?
Yes. New Jersey Beer Company at 4201 Tonnelle Avenue.
It is one of the few microbreweries in Hudson County, sitting in an industrial stretch about six blocks from the Tonnelle Avenue light rail station. The entrance is on 43rd Street between Tonnelle and Dell, not on Tonnelle itself, which trips up almost every first-time visitor. The taproom runs Wednesday through Sunday with an outdoor tasting area, and the brewery recommends public transit over driving.

7. How Do You Get From North Bergen to Manhattan and Jersey City?
Light rail from Tonnelle Avenue, or bus from Bergenline Avenue.
The Tonnelle Avenue station at Tonnelle Avenue and 49th Street is the northern terminus of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, opened in 2006, with 682 parking spaces including 17 accessible spaces, bicycle facilities, and full accessibility. It serves both the West Side and Hoboken branches, connecting to Hoboken Terminal and down through Jersey City.
Bergenline Avenue is served by NJ Transit bus routes including the 22, 84, 89, and 156. Confirm current schedules at njtransit.com.
There is a second light rail station proposed for the Babbitt section at 91st Street as part of the Northern Branch Corridor Project. No opening date has been established, so treat it as a possibility rather than a plan.
8. What Public Art and Local Landmarks Are Worth Seeing?

The Bergenline Avenue station on the light rail is underground with elevator access between 48th and 49th Streets, and the network's stations in this corridor carry commissioned public artwork including porcelain enamel murals on steel. Combined with the Braddock statue at the park entrance, you can build a short walking loop out of the two.
9. Where Does North Bergen Sit Geographically, and Why Does It Confuse People?
It is in Hudson County, not Bergen County. The name misleads constantly.
North Bergen is a Hudson County township despite the name, bordered by Union City, Guttenberg, West New York, and Secaucus, with Bergen County towns including Fairview and Ridgefield to the north. The confusion is not trivial. It affects property tax comparisons, school district assumptions, county services, and search results.
For pricing purposes it matters a great deal. Redfin put the Bergen County median sale price at $873,000 for the three months ending June 2026. North Bergen does not price anywhere near that, because it is not in that county or that market.
10. What Does All of This Mean If You Own a Home in North Bergen?
It means the township is an entry point to the Gold Coast, and it prices like one.
Per the Zillow Home Value Index, the typical home value in North Bergen Township is $526,506, up 3.0 percent over the past year. Movoto recorded a July 2026 median list price of $471,000 at $388 per square foot with a median 51 days on market. RealtyTrac counted 370 properties sold in zip 07047 over the trailing twelve months.
That last number is the important one. North Bergen moves real volume, roughly a property a day, which makes it one of the more liquid markets on this side of the river. Volume that size means comparable sales are genuinely available for most property types here, unlike the smaller Bergen County boroughs where a pricing conversation runs on four or five closings.
The other thing volume gives you is honest feedback. In a market this active, if a home sits past the median, the market is telling you something specific about price rather than about timing or luck. That is useful information and most sellers ignore it for too long.
North Bergen also carries a substantial share of two-family and multi-family product, and those price on income rather than on comparable single-family sales. Thirteen multifamily buildings closed over my career means that is familiar work.
