6 Ways to Get to Manhattan From Fort Lee, Leonia and Edgewater Without a Train

Many of the towns closest to the George Washington Bridge have no train station. That surprises buyers coming from towns along the rail lines. It does not mean a hard commute. It means a different one, and knowing the options helps you choose the right street, not just the right town.

1. The bus to Port Authority

NJ Transit buses run from Fort Lee, Cliffside Park, Edgewater and Palisades Park into the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown. In Edgewater, the 158 stops along River Road. Check current schedules for the stop closest to the home you are considering.

2. The bus to the George Washington Bridge Bus Station

From the bridge-area towns, buses and jitneys connect to the GWB Bus Station in Washington Heights, where you can pick up the A train. It is a common choice for Upper Manhattan and the West Side.

3. The NY Waterway ferry

From Edgewater, NY Waterway runs ferries from the landing on River Road to West 39th Street in Midtown (https://www.nywaterway.com). For a waterfront buyer, distance to the landing matters as much as the view.

4. Driving over the bridge

The GWB puts Upper Manhattan minutes away when traffic cooperates. If you drive daily, look hard at parking: deeded, garage or street, and what it costs.

5. Bus to rail connections

Some commuters ride a bus to a rail or PATH connection for Downtown or Jersey City jobs. It adds a transfer but can make sense for specific offices.

6. A shorter walk to the right stop

In these towns, the block matters. A home a two-minute walk from a frequent bus stop competes in a different pool than one a long walk uphill. Buyers notice, and so does the price.

Who this is for: buyers comparing bridge-area towns with towns on the rail lines, and sellers pricing a home where the commute is a selling point.
